Parylene Removal Services
Specialist Rework for the Toughest Conformal Coating
Parylene removal services require both expertise and specialised equipment.
Unlike liquid conformal coatings, Parylene cannot simply be chemically stripped. SCH therefore provides precision micro-abrasion rework, enabling technicians to selectively and safely remove Parylene while protecting the underlying PCB, pads and component leads.
After removal, assemblies can then be repaired, modified and re-coated under strictly controlled conditions at our UK facility, ensuring consistent quality and long-term reliability.
Our services support aerospace, medical, defence and industrial electronics where reliability and quality are critical.

When Parylene Removal Is Required
- Component replacement or circuit modification on coated boards
- Correction of defects discovered after coating and test
- Failure analysis and root cause investigations
- Refurbishment, life-extension or product upgrade programmes
How We Remove Parylene
SCH utilises advanced micro-abrasion systems such as the Vaniman Problast with fine, carefully controlled abrasive media. This enables precise and selective coating removal without damaging fine-pitch components or sensitive board areas.
- Selective pad, lead and trace exposure for rework
- Tight control of pressure, nozzle size and media flow
- Repeatable and documented process parameters
Because Parylene has extremely high chemical resistance, conventional solvent stripping is ineffective. Controlled micro-abrasion is therefore the most widely used and reliable method for selective Parylene removal on electronic assemblies.
Our Parylene Rework Workflow

- Full traceability with photographs and batch records
- Optional Certificates of Conformance (CoC) and First Article Inspection (FAI)
In-House vs Outsourced Parylene Removal
- Outsourced service: send assemblies to SCH for professional removal and re-coating.
- In-house capability: we supply Vaniman micro-abrasion systems and provide specialist training.
Considering In-House Parylene Rework?
Many manufacturers begin by outsourcing Parylene removal and repair before eventually developing their own in-house capability.
SCH supports both pathways by providing subcontract coating services, micro-abrasion equipment, process training and implementation guidance.
Learn More About Parylene Removal
Removing Parylene safely requires specialist knowledge of coating chemistry, masking techniques and micro-abrasion control.
Our technical Knowledge Hub explains how conformal coatings behave and how engineers can identify and safely remove them.
FAQs
Can Parylene be chemically stripped?
No. Paryleneβs chemical resistance prevents conventional solvent stripping. Controlled micro-abrasion is normally required for selective removal.
Can boards be recoated after removal?
Yes. After repair and cleaning, assemblies can be recoated using the same or a compatible Parylene grade.
Can removal be limited to specific areas?
Yes. Micro-abrasion allows technicians to selectively expose pads, connectors or component leads while leaving surrounding coating intact.
