Description
Polyester cleaning swabs provide controlled, precision cleaning for electronics assembly, inspection, and conformal coating environments. They are well suited for wiping PCB surfaces, cleaning connectors, and accessing tight or localised areas where cloths or wipes are impractical.
Within conformal coating processes, operators commonly use polyester cleaning swabs during preparation, inspection, and rework. Typical applications include removing light contamination, excess residues, and small amounts of unwanted conformal coating during touch-up and finishing. When used correctly, swabs support cleaner surfaces and more consistent coating results without spreading contamination.
They are also used for localised conformal coating repair, where a solvent-dampened swab is applied to soften and lift small areas of coating prior to inspection, touch-up, or selective rework.
During de-masking operations, polyester cleaning swabs may be used to support controlled repair of localised coating tears or edge delamination where coating has unintentionally lifted at mask boundaries. In these cases, swabs allow precise cleaning and preparation of the affected area prior to touch-up, without extending damage into adjacent coated regions.
Why Polyester Swabs
The swab head uses double-layer knitted polyester, engineered for high absorbency and strong solvent retention. This allows controlled application of cleaning fluids and reliable residue removal without excessive dripping or uncontrolled solvent spread.
The polypropylene handle provides a stable grip and predictable wiping action, enabling technicians to clean defined areas precisely on PCBs, components, solder joints, and connector interfaces.
Low-lint performance is critical during electronics cleaning and conformal coating preparation, as loose fibres can interfere with coating adhesion, inspection, and long-term reliability. These polyester swabs are designed to minimise fibre release, helping reduce the risk of surface contamination during sensitive cleaning operations.
Typical Uses
- Precision cleaning of PCB surfaces prior to conformal coating or inspection
- Cleaning connectors, headers, and fine-pitch features
- Localised removal of light residues during touch-up and rework
- Support for controlled repair following de-masking-related coating damage
- General electronics assembly, inspection, and quality control cleaning tasks
These swabs are compatible with many commonly used cleaning fluids and solvents in electronics processing. As with all cleaning operations, suitability should be confirmed for the specific solvent, coating system, and materials in use.
