Many general-purpose masking dots and tapes available on the market are not optimised for conformal coating environments and can introduce avoidable process issues, including:

De-wetting around the perimeter of the dot, where the conformal coating pulls back
Adhesive residue remaining after removal, requiring additional cleaning steps
Bleeding of the conformal coating underneath the dot during application
Tearing or splitting during removal, slowing processing and increasing handling time
Adverse chemical interaction with the conformal coating material

For an efficient and repeatable production process, it is essential to minimise these effects.
