Parylene Removal Services
Specialist Rework for the Toughest Conformal Coating
Parylene removal services require expertise and specialist equipment. Unlike liquid conformal coatings, Parylene cannot be chemically stripped. SCH provides precision micro-abrasion rework to selectively remove Parylene without damaging the underlying PCB, pads, or leads. Assemblies can then be repaired, modified, and re-coated under controlled conditions at our UK facility.
Our services support aerospace, medical, defence, and industrial electronics where reliability and quality are critical.

When Parylene Removal Is Required
- Component replacement or circuit modification on coated boards
- Correction of defects discovered after coating and test
- Failure analysis and root cause investigations
- Refurbishment, life-extension, or product upgrade programmes
How We Remove Parylene
SCH uses micro-abrasion systems (e.g., Vaniman Problast) with fine, controlled abrasive media. This method delivers precise, selective removal without damaging fine-pitch components or sensitive board areas.
- Selective pad, lead, and trace exposure for rework
- Tight control of pressure, nozzle size, and media flow
- Repeatable, documented processes for consistency
Parylene cannot be removed with wet chemical stripping due to its high chemical resistance — micro-abrasion is the only viable method.
Our Parylene Rework Workflow
- Assessment & quotation – review of BOM/photos or sample assemblies
- Incoming inspection – documentation, cleanliness, baseline photos
- Precision removal – micro-abrasion under magnification
- Cleaning & drying – ionic contamination check, bake dry if required
- Repair/rework – component replacement, soldering, modifications
- Re-coating – reapply Parylene in controlled vacuum deposition
- Final inspection & reporting – visual, magnified, and optional electrical test with documentation
Quality & Compliance
- All rework aligned with IPC-A-610 criteria
- Process traceability with photos and batch records
- Optional Certificates of Conformance (CoC) and First Article Inspection (FAI) reports
In-House vs Outsourced Parylene Removal
Not every facility has the equipment or expertise to remove Parylene. SCH provides both options:
- Outsourced service: send us your boards for expert removal and re-coating.
- In-house option: we supply Vaniman micro-abrasion systems and training if you prefer to manage rework internally.
FAQs
Can Parylene be chemically stripped?
No. Parylene is chemically resistant. Only micro-abrasion can selectively remove it.
Can you recoat after removal?
Yes. We remove, repair, and then reapply a compatible conformal coating in line with the IPC repair standards.
Is selective removal possible?
Yes. Micro-abrasion allows exposure of just one pad or connector without disturbing the rest of the board.
