EMI/RFI Shielding coatings and paints

RFI / EMI Shielding coatings supplied by MG Chemicals are protective lacquers with electrically conductive materials.

The coatings utilise metals such as aluminium, copper and zinc impregnated within the blend. They are used on non-conducting composite casing materials to shield sensitive electronic devices from radio frequency electromagnetic interference.

The range of applications for the carbon, graphite and nickel conductive coatings includes cell phones, PDA’s, other consumer electronics, telecommunication equipment, industrial equipment, medical devices, military devices, and aerospace equipment. It can also works well on drywall, and can be used to shield entire rooms.

Materials like the Silver conductive coatings can also provide an excellent-conductivity EMI/RFI shielding suitable for harsh environments.

It may also act as a conductive base for applications where it is necessary to impart the highest degree of conductivity to a surface.

As well, the silver is non-magnetic, offering a low relative permeability that provides reasonable skin depths, which makes it suitable for microwave transmissions applications.

Range of products

838 Total ground carbon conductive

An economical, acrylic paint that is used to create conductive, static free surfaces with excellent characteristics. Coated surfaces reduce electromagnetic or radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI).

The carbon in the coat resists rubbing off to the touch and the cured coat is able to withstand large temperature changes without cracking.

839 Super shield™ graphite conductive coating

An economical, acrylic paint that is used to create conductive, static free surfaces with excellent characteristics. Coated surfaces reduce electromagnetic or radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI).

841 Super shield™ nickel conductive coating

A general purpose RFI / EMI shielding spray for use on plastic electronics enclosures. Consists of a tough, durable acrylic base pigmented with a high purity nickel flake.

842 Super shield™ silver conductive coating

An effective extreme frequency EMI/FRI shielding paint for use on plastic electronics enclosures. Consists of a tough, durable acrylic base pigmented with a high purity silver.

843 Super shield™ silver coated copper conductive coating

An effective high frequency EMI/RFI shielding paint for use on plastic electronics enclosures. Consists of a tough, durable acrylic base pigmented with a high purity silver coated copper.

What is EMI / RFI?

RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) and EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) is essentially noise.

Noise is any unwanted signal that interferes with intentional signals.

If you are having a conversation in person, you can move to less noisy areas but this is harder for telecommunications since EM waves travel fast and easily in many different directions.

Electronic devices and equipments need to be shielded from RFI / EMI Interference for telecommunications, technological, and health reasons.

These reasons are the basis for both governmental, industrial, and commercial shielding requirements.
